Me Ancient
Добавлен 2 фев 2021
I opened an MRE in one of ACE VIDEOS episodes while on our boat. The response to the MRE opening was overwhelming. I had saved that particular MRE from when I was active duty in the Marine Corps from 1980 to 1984.
So I decided that if I ever started my own RUclips channel, MREs would somehow be a part of the content.
Join me as I discover MREs and other survival foods as well as the Great Outdoors.

3500 calories are still on the lower end of what you burn through in the field. China has to up their game.
Lmao the reaction to Vegemite was hilarious
those crackers are pretty close to Norwegian "rug knekkebrød"
In would portion this out so good
I’m from Little Rock born and bred! I’m 50 so I definitely remember the Golden Host. Small world
top right must be the company name that made the mre
Tell yah what, if i was required to eat any kind of military ration, i would carry a set of titanium camp utensils, and some seasonings (salt, pepper, hot sauce). In fact, as i am on the road a lot for my job, i DO have a set of titanium utensils. They don't weight much, and they are rugged as heck.
Eating Liver sausage for breakfast is a German thing. You still find people doing that in the midwest. I grew up having liver sausage several times a month for breakfast. And every time i visit Germany, liver sausage (think Braunschweigert) is there for breakfast if you want it. Plus, i think liver pate is a very good thing for a military ration, as liver is full of nutrients, and you need that fat energy to hold you through the day.
Just another Russian ration with the same old ingredients.
Watching the channel for a while like the content a lot never felt the need to comment but damn that Chinese mre is bloody crazy active people made to eat so little 🤯
It would be tough to stay engaged with so little food, if indeed that is what they are issued for a day (times 3) TFW
Both looked tasty but the chineses gonna starve lol
Tasty but 'skinny.' TFW, as always!
Love the videos. Want to try one of your US MRE's out here in Sweden. I looked at a shop here, and they cost over 80 USD each.... Wow. Maybe another time... LOL
Man, that''s expensive, even for here. TFW
After the review I would have mixed the American and chinese together. I think the combo would be fantastic.
Good idea. TFW
The Chinese one is a civilian ration apparently.
I haven't heard that. TFW
🇺🇸
USA! TFW
The USA meal has lots of sugar for energy
Energy is just what you need when you're working hard. Too much sugar not good, but I'd rather have too many calories and be judicious than be working and wishing I had something more to eat. TFW
@@MeAncient I agree 100% I was a M1A2 sep 3/8 calvery ft hood tx tank commander you would be suprised on how much you sweat and work during the summer and hot climates. That chinese mre is more like pogey bait or a snack., when your on the tan bag take out you need those calories to replenish your body. During gunnery I use to get extra Mre for my loader because he was a real work horse gotta love the good ole days
The quail eggs are there for the protein in a meal that has so few calories
Makes sense. TFW
I have a question.... why don't you put the cheese and sauce in with that hot water you use to warm patties. It would. Help with the texture
Great idea, Seth. Next time......TFW
@@MeAncient can't wait to see how it turns out
Wondering why he didn't just drop that soup cube into the cup? Pouring from a cup is just awkward
I think it's good to watch the cube dissolve and it seemed the best way to show it. TFW, and thanks for the question.
@@MeAncient As usual, you put your audience first. Thanks Man! Really enjoy your presentations!
Just a question. How do you get MREs that none of us can get? Love your videos and want to get some of them, but can't. Thought I would ask.
I'm working on getting some links, etc so y'all can find what I'm getting. This one came from a subscriber, Vlad. He immigrated here a while back from Ukraine and has special connections........TFW
@@MeAncient Thank you Sir.
Army called them P38. Can’t remember why. The real ones are so much better than the Chinese copy. You can open with a kabar, but I saw people get hurt that way. We still got cigarettes in our c rations in 1975, at ft hood. Pound cake with the juice from the pears was great, but some people liked peach juice better. Kool cigarettes was the most valuable, Marlboro was next in value. Thanks for the memories!
P38 because they are 38 millimeters in length. The C Rats you got would have been produced before 1973 since they had smokes in them. '72 was the last year for cigarettes. TFW and I'm glad to be a part of bringing back some good memories, James.
@@MeAncient 👍
The Chinese one was toddler sized.
Not enough, for sure. It was good, though. TFW, Rose.
Love hearing Ace in the backgroung helping out pops. Drop a new video Ace! Cheers y'all!
He did earlier this week on his main channel. You've probably seen it. TFW
The saying " Is an army marches on their stomach" leaves us hanging concerning the Chinese MRE😮.
Someone suggested that perhaps they get more food issued somehow. I haven't seen anything definitive yet in the comment section. TFW, Katherine.
Vegemite to me tastes like “Better than Bullion” soup paste.
I'm looking forward to my next review from Australia. I have one more in which to try Vegemite in a more (hopefully) Aussie style. TFW and stay tuned!
I hear you reminisce about the marine core which is interesting, could you go into why you liked it so much?
The older I get, the more I enjoyed it and the better I was........... Hope that helps to make sense of it. TFW, Nate.
4:00 z polskimi napisami przetłumaczyło mi to na (kutasowy cukierek) :D
Ojej! TFW
One tird of USA calories go to Skities, and as we know carbo hidrates doesnt keep U full for to long That three egs will keep U full much longer then beef or jam or peanut butter.
Stay in school, kid.
The eggs wouldn't quite do the trick for me. Give me beef or peanut butter. I''d eat them when I'm hungry and if that's the best option, but I'd prefer more caloric volume. TFW
@@toxicteabaging S tupid ITS a picture of my son
@@MeAncient The proteins From the eggs need lot of time to be digested, more than meat proteins. For me Best combination in ration eggs and little of bacon or spam
Use your words.
And the moral of the story is....... don't be a vegetarian
You got that right! TFW, Andrew
The egg and tomato cube is actually freeze dried soup. It's a watery type of soup, so you'll need to add it into 120-150ml of hot water for a minute.
I could have used that advice before I put that together, for sure. Thanks for hanging out and the suggestions. TFW
I use these Real Turmat / Real Field meals) on long hikes and they are hands down the best freeze dried hiking food out there. I don't use the full MRE packages as there's a lot of waste, but instead buy the individual main course packages. The "Kylling" Tikka Masala is, indeed, killing. So good (for a freeze dried meal).
It is fun to just buy what you like to bring hiking, etc. TFW, Derek.
I love these videos when you compare foreign rations with each other. You have inspired me to maybe do similar content. Unfortunately, I dont have a professional like @Ace to edit, but i will make it due. I'm excited to see your next video, brother. Ma😊y God continue to bless you and your family.
Mr.Jester, I WISH Ace would edit my videos. He films but I edit. That's why there is such a long time between videos.....I take soooooo long to edit these simple, one camera videos. TFW!
@MeAncient I would've thought @Ace would at least help you with it 😆 🤣 😂. You do a great job, brother! What do you use to edit? I really need to take a course on how to do RUclips videos
P- 38 is the small one P-41is the larger Vegemite is almond butter
I have others telling me Vegemite is yeast waste or something like.....TFW, Joel.
It’s tang get it at Walmart the orange drink that is
Mike, it sure was a lot like Tang, for sure. TFW
@@MeAncient thanks for the content
BP-38 and the larger P-51 both can openers were made by the U.S. SHELBY CO. USA. For the military. Back during the C-Rations and MCI. Meal Combat Individual. Day's. Back before MRE'S came along? Can still buy them at Army Navy stores. And they come in handy for camping.
Alan, they are always a good thing to have on hand when cans are around. A bit slower but they always work. TFW!

i have no experience with being in the feild, but i love seeing your videos. The way you talk makes me feel at ease and it's just very fun to watch! Im norwegian, and used to eat those meal packs when i was out camping with my family, i personally find them very good! 😊 keep up the great videos!
Frida, it's good to have you along on our adventures. Those meal packs are good, aren't they? TFW
cookie and cobbler😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
You know it! TFW
You're brave for doing a Chinese ration after one almost took out Steve!
I hadn't heard that........TFW
I went to bootcamp last year at mcrd san diego, they use those exact trays like you have in the video, they still use the phrase you mentioned as well, for those wondering the phrase is nut to butt and they mean that literally.
Our D.I.s said, "A**hole to belly button!!" TFW, you Hollywood Marine, you. :-)
It's kinda funny other countries don't eat much peanut butter, it's good on so many things..my favorite is with celery, what's yours?
You know that P.B. was first put together (one might say, invented) by an American, Mr. George Wahington Carver, right? It's truly American in origin. TFW, Christopher.
Hey guys! What a great video. I wonder if the Chinese MRE's for the other two meals in the day, had more calories than the lunch MRE? Perhaps they gave them a light lunch, in case they were on a ruck, or in some type of drilling exercise? This way the soldier wouldn't be too full to continue with his duties, don't know, just a thought. I don't have to wonder if the Skittles were good, LOL!! See ya both next time, God bless.
We'll find out soon......I have two more Chinese MREs.....TFW and stay tuned.
a chinese soldier doesnt only have these. they got rice with it, a lot of rice.
I do seriously wonder if there is more food issued than what's in the MREs.....no flavored drinks or real dessert items, and everyone knows you need dessert.....TFW
Fortune cooking were invented in the US, if i am not mistaken. No real Chinese person would expect a fortune cookie in a Chinese meal.
Jerome, you have shattered a childhood idea. Thanks a lot, man! TFW
If it's one thing China has a lot of it's people. What do they care if a few die in combat due to not enough food. This is, after all, the country that invented human wave attacks. The Chinese government obviously does not care about the people, they care about their IMAGE, because face is everything.
china gives every soldier 500g rice to this.
After actually watching the video, it seems the Chinese military has gotten a LOT better at rations. That actually looked good! Granted, it needs more calories for a fighting man, but it wasn't as bad as i was expecting. Congratulations China, you've made a ration that isn't terrible! I'd actually eat that if i had one available, and i can't say that about previous Chinese rations i have seen.
@@jbauerlu2 That makes a lot of sense. That added caloric boost is important. And no Chinese person i have ever met didn't eat rice with every meal. Thank you for this additional information. I thought it odd there was no rice to speak of in the ration.
Jerome, the main dish was chicken and rice...it's what I put in the box. TFW!
would u shake up your drinks instead of massaging them? lol plus i think it would mix better
Will do, Patrick....next one.....I promise. TFW
You can tell that good ol' Ancient REALLY loved his Peanut Butter when he was in, and in present times, because when he saw that packet, his young inner Marine jumped out with joy and happiness. The reviews and comparisons are always a treat, along with the stories from the old school USMC. Thank you Ancient and Ace. Keep it up with the awesome content, because we can tell you dudes are having fun doing this, especially "pops". Cheers.
Andrei, I am happy you enjoy the video. I truly enjoy making them and trying out all this international food. TFW
you should have tried putting the chocolate in the coffee and letting it melt then after just stir it up its soo good
I have one more Norwegian MRE......maybe. The trouble is, I don't like chocolate in my coffee as a rule. TFW and stay tuned, Mikael.
I think the Chinese MRE is designed where literrally all of it is meant to be placed in the box as a large bento style box or whatever. got to keep in mind the Chinese are smaller and I dont think their gov cares as far as less calories go. Though I do get fighting you are going to burn calories. I know in Iraq I ate 3 MREs most days and lsot weight. Semper Fi!
I think you are right. I have two more Chinese MREs.....stay tuned. TFW, Tyler
I thought both meals looked very tasty even though the Chinese one was less calories. I'm looking forward to seeing what's next.👍
John, the Chinese MRE was definitely good. As you mentioned, just not the calories (I think will be) needed in the field. TFW
